Apple recently updated the MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. However, eyes in the technology world have turned to a new model expected to bring greater innovations.
According to information shared by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is working on a new device to be positioned above the MacBook Pro series in early 2027. It is stated that the company might use the name MacBook Ultra for this upper-segment model.
Innovations Coming with MacBook Ultra
The new model is expected to represent the most comprehensive design change in the MacBook Pro series since 2021.

Among the prominent features of the device are OLED screen technology, touch screen support, and Dynamic Island design.

It is estimated that Apple will include M6 Pro and M6 Max processors produced with TSMC’s 2nm process in this new model. These new processors are expected to offer significant gains in terms of both performance and energy efficiency compared to the current M5 series.

On the design side of the device, a thinner structure is targeted. The transition to OLED screen technology is predicted to directly contribute to this thinning process.

Another striking feature stands out as built-in cellular connection support. It is stated that Apple might use its self-developed modem technologies for 5G and LTE connection in this model.
Release Date and Expectations
The release date of the MacBook Ultra seems to have been pushed back to early 2027 due to shortages in global memory chip supply. It is stated that restrictions in Apple’s RAM supply directly affected the production schedule.
This new model will be positioned above the MacBook Pro series and will be the top option in Apple’s laptop product range. Entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro models are not expected to receive most of these radical changes. Apple had previously transitioned to OLED screen technology in iPhone, iPad Pro, and Apple Watch models. The MacBook Ultra will be the first model to carry this technology to the laptop series. The touch screen feature will allow users to interact directly via the screen in addition to the keyboard and trackpad. Dynamic Island, on the other hand, will offer a more functional area by changing the notch structure at the top of the screen. Whether the company will remove ports like HDMI, MagSafe, or the SD card slot in this new design has not yet been clarified. Users approach past port changes quite cautiously.
